This Land Is Your Land, This Land is My Land….

Because You’re Mine, I’ll Walk the Line….

The words from these traditional songs summarize my idea
for a walk through our valley.

My name is Jed Diamond. I’ve been a health practitioner for over 40
years and moved to Willits 15 years ago with my wife, Carlin. One of the things we all share is our love for this wonderful community.

Many people are still unsure about the disposition of the 101 Bypass
as determined by Cal-Trans and other regulatory agencies. Since 1952, and perhaps earlier, there has been talk about the need to relieve downtown traffic. Many routes have been suggested and many different kinds of solutions have been presented.

Some of us can point to a map and more or less follow the line that the suggested route might take. But how many of us – especially those who feel strongly one way or the other -- have actually walked the proposed route? I haven't. How many of you have?

I would like to invite you to join with me, and others who care about Willits, to walk the route of the proposed Bypass through the Little Lake Valley. I hope to encourage all members of the City Council and other concerned community
leaders to join us.

Perhaps an engineer who reads maps can accompany us so that as many citizens as possible can see up close and personal the effect
a Bypass would have on our town.

We will learn who owns the land that will be affected and secure their permission for us to walk gently across their property. They may even want to join us. Our valley is only five and a half miles long.

The Bypass will be shorter than that. We should be able to walk the route in less than a day.

Maps and textual descriptions can never impart the impact that a
personal, hands-on -- or rather feet-on -- inspection can.

If you’re interested in joining me on such a walk please give me your
contact information.
